Barclays in Jersey

Community activity

We are proud to be part of Jersey life and, as well as providing banking services for people in the Island, we are delighted to support a range of community projects and activities.

For example, in 2009 Barclays Community Awards gave away £38,000 to registered charities in Jersey. Among the recent recipients is the Jersey Women's Refuge, which was awarded a grant to support its 'Just What We Need' project.

Sadly, domestic violence or abuse often means women and their children have to leave the family home. The Jersey Women's Refuge provides them with a place of safety and emotional support at this difficult time. The 'Just What We Need' project helps women to recognise their own needs and those of their family, especially their children. They learn how to make positive life choices and maintain the cycle of positive change, as well as developing a support network to help them move on with their lives.

Other initiatives include the Barclays Late Night Football League in St Brelade, which helps youngsters stay out of trouble on Friday evenings. The sessions run from 8.30 to 10.00 and are open to boys and girls between 12 and 17. According to the police, they have helped reduce low level crime in the area by up to 70 per cent.

Our staff recently joined the head and parents of St John's school to clear and prepare an area of ground that will become a new garden area and nature trail for the children of the school.

We also held a golf day to raise funds for Autism Jersey and were delighted to welcome the Barclays Premier League trophy to the Broad Street branch of Barclays, attracting lots of football fans and raising money for Help a Jersey Child.
