The Programme
The Embark Programme is a full-time opportunity offered in a number of locations, where, if successful, you will commence building your client book. The training programme is designed to provide you with the knowledge and experience you will need to make the most of your career as a Barclays Private Banker.
At Barclays we are committed to continuous learning. We believe in a true meritocracy where we will support you to develop your career to its full potential. You are in the driving seat and should take personal ownership of developing your career. As well as gaining valuable experience through the role you are performing, you should expect the following training and support.
Training and Development Programme
Embark offers a robust and rigorous executive style development and training programme designed to develop the core technical and professional skills required by Private Bankers. For more information on the training programme, please visit our Training and Development page.
Upon completing the Training and Development Programme, each Embark can become a Private Banker with either UK or international coverage. The objectives of the role will be to acquire, develop, retain and service a portfolio of complex clients. View further information on the key responsibilities of a Private Banker.
Professional Qualifications
Embarks recruited into the UK & Ireland and International Private Banking business, who are based in the UK, are required to complete and pass the Investment Advice Diploma (IAD). For further details, visit 7city or the Financial Services Authority. Embarks recruited into International locations, such as Geneva and Dubai, are required to complete the CFA.
Continuous development
In addition to the initial training programme, passing the CISI Diploma and completing your assessment, your training journey continues with our market-leading knowledge management system "L@B" - Learning at Barclays.
L@B is helpful when designing individual personal development plans, provides access to 300 learning resources and is a sign of our commitment to the continuous development of our staff. Our extensive e-learning library allows you to choose from a variety of online courses, which will help you to improve and increase your knowledge. These include courses related to our products and required technical knowledge, along with soft-skills training.
Business Support
The success of an Embark is critical to our business. With this in mind, as well as assigning you a Line Manager, we will allocate you a Mentor and a Buddy for the duration of the Programme. Each role has specific responsibilities, which are outlined below:
-
Mentor
Your Mentor will be a senior manager who will be able to provide you with a high level of guidance, advice and support. In addition, they will act as a 'sounding board' to your learning process by providing effective feedback which supports and challenges your professional development. -
Buddy
Your Buddy will be an Embark who has been through the Programme so is in the unique position of understanding exactly what you're experiencing and can help you navigate your way through the organisation. Maybe they'll even show you where to get a much needed coffee and some lunch.
