Barclays Wealth, the UK's largest wealth manager, has announced the appointment of Paul Burd, who will take on the position of Head of Business Services, Barclays Wealth Operations and Head of Operations, Glasgow. He will report to Paul Chapman, Head of Barclays Wealth Operations.
Paul will deliver global strategic operational support for Barclays Wealth's customer facing divisions, including UK Private Bank, Barclays International, Wealth Advisory and Barclays Stockbrokers, heading up the bank's Glasgow-based shared services hub. The global operations infrastructure centre employs 1,500 staff and provides 24/7 servicing to clients across the world for both Barclays Wealth and Barclays Capital, the bank's investment banking arm.
In the newly created role, Paul will take responsibility for overseeing relationship management, strategic planning and quality and change management within the Operations business unit. During this time, Paul grew the business from 100 to 400 people, overseeing operations, technology, finance, sales and relationship management. Earlier roles in his ten year career with JP Morgan include managing director of its London Investment Management Operations and managing director in Bournemouth. Previously he spent ten years with Goldman Sachs in London and Frankfurt and a decade with HSBC.
Commenting on the appointment, Paul Chapman said:
"Paul is a significant hire as we continue to grow our global shared services hub in Glasgow in collaboration with Barclays Capital. He will play a vital role in strategically developing the operational support required by our Wealth business across the globe and also strengthening our presence here in Scotland.
"Our infrastructure framework in Glasgow is a core element of our global expansion plans and we have committed substantial investment to developing the shared services hub into a market-leading centre of excellence through attracting the best industry talent and enhancing our business process.
