Barclays Wealth in Scotland announces five senior appointments

Barclays Wealth, the UK's largest wealth manager, is progressing plans to double the size of its Scottish business with the announcement of five new senior appointments. Jonathan King and Simon Lewis are joining as private bankers and Ryan McDonald will be taking on the role of financial planning regional director, while Martyn Padden and Richard Peacock have been promoted to private bank executives.

Martyn Padden will be based in the Aberdeen office supporting the development of the Barclays Wealth business in the north east and reporting to Mark Flynn, vice president private banking. The remaining recruits will be based in Glasgow. Simon Lewis will be reporting to vice-president Clifford George, Jonathan King and Richard Peacock to vice-president Henry Peterkin and Ryan McDonald will be working directly with managing director Mark Little.

The latest in a line of eleven senior hires in the past two months, the recruitment drive signals Barclays Wealth's ongoing commitment to Scotland as it continues its rapid growth. The company is undertaking a £350m global investment programme over the next five years, 40 per cent of which is being invested in its people.

Whether it's bringing in key industry players like Jonathan, Simon and Ryan or developing our existing employees as we have with Martyn and Richard, the calibre of our staff is testament to our increasingly significant position in the marketplace.

Ryan McDonald brings over a decade of financial planning and wealth management experience to Barclays Wealth. As Head of Wealth Management in Scotland for Lloyds Banking Group, he led a team of eight area wealth managers and 56 senior wealth planning managers. Ryan has previously held a number of other senior roles within the business in addition to a period with Scottish Widows. An avid traveller, he has explored destinations around the globe including India, South Africa and Australia resulting in a keen interest in photography.

Jonathan King joins Barclays Wealth from Deutsche Bank Private Wealth Management. A highly experienced investment manager, he is a specialist in exchange traded funds and the business to business intermediary market. Well known in the Scottish golfing scene, Jonathan is a former Scottish amateur international and was captain of the University of Stirling's golf team where he graduated with an honours degree in Business Studies.

Formerly an investment adviser with Speirs & Jeffrey Ltd, Simon Lewis is highly accomplished in strategic and tax planning, portfolio management and investment strategies. A qualified member of the Chartered Institute for Securities and Investment, he holds an LLB (Hons) from the University of Glasgow and SII Diploma in Investment Compliance.

Martyn Padden has worked as part of the Barclays Wealth team since 2008 when he joined as a business executive. Prior to this, he held a variety of managerial roles with responsibility for product development, marketing, staff management and recruitment. Martyn graduated with distinction in Business and ICT from the City of Bath College.

Richard Peacock has a strong track record in the finance industry undertaking key roles with KPMG, Geoghegans Chartered Accountants and Scott-Moncrieff before joining Barclays Wealth in 2008. Most recently he was an analyst in Morgan Stanley & Co's external balancing team. Richard studied Film and Television Studies with English Literature at the University of Glasgow and has a keen interest in football, American sports, cinema and travelling.

Barclays Wealth employs more than 1,800 staff in Scotland and is one of the top ten employers in Glasgow, the location of its global shared services hub. The company also recently announced the appointment of Jack Perry, former chief executive of Scottish enterprise, as the first representative from Scotland to its UK & Ireland Private Bank Advisory Committee.
